This is a letter of recommendation for Eric Hettema, Van Gogh Painters.

In the spring of 1996 we hired Van Gogh Painters to clean up and paint the exterior of the Fort Langley Community Hall. This is a large building of the classic configuration of Greek Revival architecture. It is a designated heritage building and the "centrepiece" building of the village of Fort Langley.
Eric did a great job. He was enthusiastic and thorough in the preparation as well as the painting. Heritage buildings always present a few challenges and surprises; they were all handled very well.

The purpose of this letter is to provide a letter of recommendation for the services provided by Van Gogh Painting and Restoration Ltd. under the ownership of Eric Hettema. Eric Hettema painted the exterior of my house as well as restored my cedar shake roof by pressure washing and staining the shakes.

When quoting on the job, he made suggestions of what he believed should be included in the estimate so the job would be complete and the paint job would look it's best. His quote was competitive, and was the most comprehensive of areas that needed to be painted for the best end results. He functioned in the most business-like fashion of all the businesses asked to quote on the job. Every item was carefully itemized on the quotation and excellent quality of stain and paint was used as part of the quotation. He was careful in communicating the justification for restoration of cedar roofs in order to extend their life span.

His work was done to an excellent standard of workmanship. By draping surfaces
to prevent dripping on stones, cement and siding and rinsing away the algae that was washed from the roof, he kept his work areas clean. The windows were covered during the spraying of the walls and were washed at the end of the job. Eric even went out of his way to do an excellent job on cleaning the window surfaces. Eric's training in the fine arts allowed him to make creative suggestions on the use of colour on the various surfaces. All the jobs quoted on the estimate were completed in their entirety and in good time. During his spraying on the walls he covered all surfaces with two coats which provided a better coverage than would have been possible by just brushing on the stain. Eric did carpentry jobs such was framing the windows to present a more modern appearance as well as repair jobs which contributed to the final completion of the job.

The presentation of the house looks better than it has looked for many years and the life of the cedar shake is extended by the coats of stain, thereby increasing it's water resistance.

Eric was a pleasant and easy trades person to hire for this contract since he showed such excellent work habits. He made suggestions without being insistent on having his suggestions followed. During his work, he showed an awareness of the need to follow high standards of safety so that he and his assistant would not be injured. I would like to highly recommend Eric Hettema as an excellent choice for a contract in painting or restoration

Eric Hettema, of 'Van Gogh Painting & Restorations Ltd.' just completed painting the entire interior of our home and we couldn't be happier with the end result.
He changed the colour of every wall, trim and door as well as refreshing the paint on the ceilings. Eric has a keen eye for detail and completed the project with the care he would have given his own home.
In addition to the painting, Eric installed crown mouldings and baseboards. He was particularly fussy about making sure no cracks were showing and the finished product is very impressive.
Eric arrived as promised each morning and put in full days, making sure he tidied up each evening before he left, so we were less inconvenienced than we expected during the evenings.
We feel like we just moved into a new home! We would not hesitate to recommend Eric for any home renovation project.
